Niue is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,400 kilometres northeast of New Zealand and within the triangle formed by Tonga, the Samoas and the Cook Islands . Its land area is 260 square kilometres and its population, predominantly Polynesian, is around 1,400.
